Fraud protection systems are a must have for anyone with a small business merchant account. You'll find there are a number of different technologies available. Each one works in a different way and has its own pros and cons. When dealing with small business credit card processing however, it isn't necessarily choosing one method over the other. Instead, become educated about all of them and use them to your advantage.

Built-In Card Fraud Protection

The card itself has a number of security features built right into it. One of the first things you'll notice are ghost images on the card, a miniature holographic image, and repetitive writing across the back on the signature panel. The purpose of these details is to make it easy for you to recognize fake cards or ones that have been tampered with in some way, and ultimately prevent fraud and chargebacks on your merchant account.

You will notice three or four digits by the signature panel on the back of the card. These are part of a verification system called CVC2 by MasterCard and CW2 by Visa. To use them, you'll be asked to supply these numbers to the small business credit card processing provider, who will then compare the numbers you gave to the numbers on the customer's file.

Risk Management Transaction Security

A large portion of preventing fraud and chargebacks on your small business merchant account lies with you and your ability to identify risky transactions. In fact, if you accept Visa or MasterCard for small business credit card processing, you are held by their PCI DSS, or Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, which state you must follow procedure when storing and caring for customer data. It also includes risk assessment.

Along with training that gives you the skills you need to recognize warning signs, you'll be given access to a special online tool that allows you to view transaction information as well as a system that uses databases and processing rules. The purpose is to determine the intent and the validity of the transaction.

Authentication And Verification

Regardless of whether you're face-to-face with a client or completing the transaction online, you need to be certain of the purchaser's identity and that he or she owns the card. Online, this is done through instant verification. In person, you'll have to compare the card with the customer's government issued ID. Address verification works the same way. Online, you should never ship products to a different address than the one registered with the credit card unless there is a verifiable and logical reason for it.

Verified Cards And SSL

Visa and MasterCard have both incorporated the added safety of debit cards to their credit cards, which is good news for your small business merchant account. To put the transaction through, your customers will have to enter a special code that is known only to them in order to verify that they are indeed the card owner. For online small business credit card processing services, SSL, or Secure Socket Layer, adds an extra layer of security to the connection, making it twice as hard for hackers and others to gain access to the information.

Small business credit card processing is safe online and offline, but there's always a chance that something could happen. The solution is to focus on prevention. Follow accepted procedures for handling the transaction and make use of the fraud security systems in place, and you'll find that fraudulent use and chargebacks will rarely occur on you small business merchant account.

Where can I get / what is the brand of a DVR2510-MP2 PCI card (video surveillance)?

I can't find anything else on the card itself to identify it. It allows 16 cameras to be connected and was installed about 2 years ago. I need a replacement for it because it isn't working correctly any more.
