how do i set up my laptop as the dvr or "vcr" to receive video feeds from my security monitor?

i have a monitor that is crapping out on me in black and white and i want to set up my laptop to record all images that are captured by my security cameras. i have video and audio in jacks and i was wondering if there is any software i need for this to happen.

i downloaded tincan, but it doesn't detect the monitor or other cameras besides my integrated webcam.

i guess i could go get a vcr for $20, but i know this is possible so i wanted some help. thanks.

i'm looking specifically for software, good solid directions, and a solution.

One program that might work for you is SuperVideoCap ($24.95) from MySuperSoft, which will take input from a video card and allow you to stream it out.

(Instead of tying down your laptop, get a cheap/used PC with a big hard drive.)

where on the net can i find a website or instructions in how to upgrade the hard drive in my directv DVR? right now got some hours but to a huge tv show watcher like me doesnt seem to be enough. i already own two tivos and space seem to be short .

only get to watch tv on sundays because i am busy with work most of the time and on my free time try to be productive only every other sunday i seat around and catch up on my tv shows but my two tivos dont seem to have enough memorie just because i like to keep old tv shows saved or favorite movies.
